Paul FOOTE, FOUNDER-DIRECTOR

Why I Created Eco-Olympics: Creating and leading Eco-Olympics brings adventure, excitement and joy from my passion to make a difference in the world!

Because I have witnessed the massive increase in energy consumption that technology and living a contemporary lifestyle demands, I want to ensure our advancements utilize the world’s resources efficiently and in the most Earth-friendly manner possible.

Eco-Olympics provides the opportunity to share this passion by engaging, educating and motivating the University of Illinois community to support energy efficiency, make personal commitments and behavior changes and share these earth conscience behaviors around the world.

“Think Globally-Act Locally” Join us in developing and promoting future leaders in environmental stewardship one semester at a time!

Julianne Yang, Co-Director

Year, Major: Senior in Biochemistry

Why I Joined Eco-Olympics: Climate action plans are only valuable if we take action - and Eco-Olympics was the perfect way for me to encourage a large community to do just that. When we talk about incorporating simple behavioral changes like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or washing the clothes in cold water, we are talking about each of the hundreds of students involved in Eco-Olympics transforming these simple behavioral changes into lifelong habits. Imagine how much energy we'd save on both the global and local scale!

Why I Joined Eco-Olympics: I joined Eco-Olympics because I wanted to get more involved in contributing to an effort that reduces energy in the community, and potentially influence other people to get more involved as well! I've wanted to become more involved in some kind of environmental organization at UIUC and I'm glad that I'll be able to help out with this year's Eco-Olympics competition. I also work for University Housing and especially want to encourage freshmen students to participate in the competition!

MARK TOLEDANO, TREASURER

Year, Major: Sophomore in Technical Systems Management

Why I Joined Eco-Olympics: The student body is eager to lessen its environmental impact, and the Eco Olympics competition provides a structured environment to do just that. We equip students with the knowledge and motivation they need to make simple habitual changes that result in a lifetime of environmentally conscious decision making. I believe that we all have something to contribute towards a healthy and prosperous future.
